BlogJet, QumanaXP, DotPost

Friday, March 31st, 2006

I have been blogging off and on for a few years now. More off than on, but throughout that time I have been less than satisified with the web based interfaces of blogging software. What can I say, I want my desktop application. Even with the release of Wordpress 2.0 and its ajaxy interface I still wanted something I could install locally. Finally this past week I started looking at offline blogging clients.

So, far I have looked at the following applications to blog to my Wordpress powered blog.

I have made several posts using QumanaXP and the last few posts including this one have been made with a trial version of BlogJet. I have yet to post anything with DotPost as I was unable to connect to my blog with it until about 5 minutes ago. Right now if I had to choose an offline bloggin tool I would probably go with BlogJet. I plan on writing a more thorough review of these tools and maybe a few more in the near future.

P.S. I just made a few edits to this post using DotPost and it may take the cake. Stay tuned.

Currently Reading

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

I am currently reading Micro-ISV: From Vision to Reality by Bob Walsh. So far, so good. I haven’t been blown away by anything yet. At the same time I haven’t been disappointed.  In my former job, I was in the same building as the Oklahoma Small Business Development Center and a lot of the advice and resources that Bob include in his book sound familiar. This of course makes sense as starting any type of business requires the founder(s) to consider some standard questions that have to be answered.  One feature of the book that I am split on is the frequent interviews. There are a some useful nuggets of information in some of them, but others just feel like a marketing spiel. I may or may not write a full review when I am finished.

Allegiance

Should my allegiance ever be questioned. I root for Oklahoma unless they are playing Texas Tech and I will always root for whoever is playing Texas. And when I say anybody that plays Texas I do mean anybody.

Texas Tech Mug

Thanks to Gilley and Veronica for the pot and mugs. :-)

Fruit Salsa

Tuesday, March 28th, 2006

Amber made a really good Fruit Salsa with Cinnamon Tortilla Chips this evening. If it weren’t for the onion, I would give it an A+. With the onion I can only give it an A. ;-) I am sure Amber will be posting pics soon.

Tips & Tricks #1: Creating PDF’s on the cheap

Tuesday, March 28th, 2006

For whatever reason you find yourself needing to create a pdf. Amazingly enough this happens once every couple of months and you don’t want to spend $88.95 plus S&H on Adobe Acrobat Standard just to scratch this small itch. Well never fear, someone has already scratched for you. For the price of a 13mb download you can be creating PDF’s left and right with PDFCreator. This open source program creates a virtual printer that you can use with just about any windows program to create pdf files. The downloads can be found here.
