Dear Colin,
You’re four now! You’ve been waiting to be four probably the day after your 3rd birthday. At least that’s when you started planning your 4th birthday party. You knew exactly what you wanted…a Mickey Mouse party and that’s what you got!
Your love for all things construction like bulldozers, backhoes and the like don’t captivate you like they once did. You’ve moved on to Star Wars, light sabers, and talk of Yoda and Jedi Masters. You enjoy reading Daddy’s old Star Wars books EVERY DAY! I’m so glad that he kept those all these years (or should I say…that Nana kept all these years.)

You still claim orange as your favorite color and like to eat cheese and crackers for lunch on most days. However you are venturing out to cheese and pickle sandwiches with mayo. It’s a step up. Dinner time is getting easier with you. You still don’t like meat much but we can get you to eat it. Once you start eating, you realize that it might not be that bad. You’re a lot like Mommy in this area. I wasn’t much of a meat eater when I was your age.
You call me Mommy-O and Daddy, Daddy-O. And sometimes you call Meme, Meme-O. It’s so funny but you did this all on your own. You say words like branch instead of ranch(salad dressing) and forsey instead of horsey. Words like these are fewer and more far apart now that you’re older and learning how to correctly pronounce words. You like to be tickled and you like to race. You race to your bed at night, to the car, to the dinner table. Who knows, maybe one day you’ll run track. Until then you are enjoying gymnastics. I think your favorite part is when you get to jump on the trampoline! You are such a cute little guy and all your teachers at Mother’s Day Out agree! You really light up a room with your smile, your sense of humor and just being your sweet silly self!
Colin, you like Mommy and Daddy to read you stories out of your bible. Particularly “Let my people go” found in Exodus 5 and “Jesus dying on the cross” Matthew 27. Your favorite song is “How to Save a Life” by the Fray. You enjoy the movies Peter Pan, Kung Fu Panda, The Incredibles and anything Max and Ruby. Every night you ask, “Where are we going tomorrow?” I think Mommy spoiled you by taking you so many places when you were younger.
Life is a little slower now that we have Kate. And while we are on the topic of Kate, can I just say you are the best big brother ever! You just love your little sister to bits. You can make her smile and squeal when no one else can. You entertain her well and are always so gentle around her. I love watching you two together. My hope and prayer is that you will always be close.
You are not much of a colorer but you enjoy using scissors so Mommy lets you cut up lots of paper scraps. You enjoy using stickers and markers. I guess crayons are so passé! You are learning to write your name. You seem to like to write it backwards, NILOC. It’s cute. We’ll work on it, buddy
Colin, you are a sweet sweet boy. You can be sensitive at times, just like your Mommy. This works both ways. You sometimes cry rather easily if you don’t get your way. I don’t think you are trying to manipulate us but you’re just mucho disappointed. On the other hand, you know when Mommy is upset and you try to comfort me. You tell me everything will be alright. You give great hugs and I love to snuggle with you. Time with you is so precious and I treasure these up in my heart.
Mommy and Daddy love you bunches and munches and cinnamon toast crunches! We’re so proud of you.
XOXO,
Mommy-O
