First bit of business…I found a new blog that I’m going to be bookmarking for future reading, Workout Mommy. And she’s got a contest going through the 14th here! Pilates or Yoga mat for two lucky winners. Please pick me (crossing fingers and knocking on wood)! I’ve done both so I’d be happy with either although I think I’m going to dip my toes in yoga. I’ve always wanted to try yoga for the flexibility and strength aspect but been a bit turned off by the Eastern culture surrounding this form of exercise. I found a book called Holy Yoga that has intrigued me! A review on that when I get around to reading it.

So as some of you know I started running last year to run my first 5k, which I did with my hubby right by my side! IMG_0419 Running became more than just this personal of goal to do something athletic since I’ve never considered myself an athlete. It’s become this thing I do because I enjoy it so much. I love the way I feel. Strong and able. Challenging my body in a way I’ve never done before. I love the connection I feel body, soul, and mind when I reach the zone. I’m starting to find my rhythm with it all. I’m currently running on a treadmill because of the subzero temps outside but as soon as I can I’m going to be back outside hitting the pavement because nature is where it’s at folks! At least for me. When I’m outside running, it turns into a time of worship, praise and prayer with God. It’s very meditative for me and that’s something I don’t quite get in a gym full of people. I love the community I have encountered with various friends who are also runners. It’s a whole new world with these people who like to put one foot in front of the other. And I’m amazed at the wealth of information and encouragement I’ve received so far. Like the fact I didn’t know about body glide! Good bye under arm chafing! Speaking of body glide, I went to the running store to purchase me some and saw a flyer for runhers.com! I think I’d eventually like to join a group like this for further motivation, training, encouragement and community. I also started reading No Need for Speed thanks to Meg. This is the best book on exercise I think I’ve ever read!

Lastly, I’ve started a green smoothie movement among a few of my friends on facebook! Green smoothies rock! Here are my 2 recipes for these healthy drinks!

Green strawberry-banana smoothie

1 c frozen strawberries
1 banana
2 c fresh baby spinach
1 c orange juice
Blend OJ and strawberries. Next add banana & blend, then add spinach and blend until smooth.


Green strawberry-mango smoothie

1 c orange juice
1/2 c frozen strawberries
1/2 c frozen mango
2 c baby spinach
Blend juice and 1 fruit at a time ending with spinach. Blend until smooth! Enjoy!

p.s. I bought some agave nectar to sweeten my hot teas! I highly recommend it. So yummy and way better for you than refined sugar! {which I get plenty of anyway ;-) }

    so proud of your running. and i’m going to have to try the smoothies. probably even given holden some. good way to get some fresh greens in him.
