Last week my mom and I took a road trip up north. We had a good time visiting with our friends. Plans got changed on Day 2 so we decided to head toward Independence, KS and check out Little House on the Prairie. There were several buildings that made up the historical site. A log cabin, a school house, a post office, a latrine, as well as a hitching post and a hand-dug well. We had fun taking turns exploring while Miss Kate slept in the car. I look forward to the day that we can go back and she can explore the grounds (hopefully after we’ve read Little House on the Prairie).
Colin enjoyed checking out the stuff on hanging on the wall

Time out: I took a time out from this post to go look for a picture of me in my prairie dress and bonnet. Couldn’t find it so I figured my mom must have it. I will post it when I come across it. I loved listening to my mom read to me about Laura Ingalls Wilder. In the 4th grade we had an 89er land run. That was my most favorite day of 4th grade. We dressed up, ran for land in an open field and had lunch on the “prairie”. I remember learning to make donuts and writing a book (and illustrating it) about living on the prairie…just like Laura. I still have that book. I hope to share and make new memories with my own daughter when the time comes but I digress.
Wow! Sounds like you had fun. How far is this from OKC? I’d love to visit some day.
That was my favorite part of 4th grade as well! I was trying to explain the land run to Ryan the other day and he didn’t quite understand…it must be an Oklahoma thing!
Mom and Dad actually took me to see the Little House on the Prairie in Independence one summer when I was younger. It was such a neat place. I remember reading all the Laura Ingalls Wilder books with my dad when I was little…it is one of my favorite childhood memories!
Bethany’s reading the 2nd little house book now.
